Three countries, shared tools and a common direction: MOBHOPE reaches the end of its first year with training resources, screening protocols and a framework for research and cooperation.

Building a shared approach

During its first year, MOBHOPE has brought together the experience of mobile teams in Spain, Portugal and Croatia. The project has developed common working methods that connect prevention, screening, referral and continuity of care. This update draws on the interim project report dated 29 October 2026.

Practical resources for mobile teams

The first-year outputs include a five-module professional training package in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Croatian, and screening and referral protocols with country-specific operating procedures. The public document library brings these resources together with the research framework, anti-stigma programme, communication plan and data management plan.

Learning from the path to care

The shared research methodology follows the pathway from community outreach and screening to confirmation, referral, linkage to treatment and follow-up. Its purpose is to identify barriers and gaps, compare experience across settings and inform improvements in mobile services. These are the foundations for evidence generation; consolidated clinical outcomes are not reported in this update.

Dignity and European cooperation

The anti-stigma programme connects professional learning, listening to people’s experiences, accessible information and the development of a future European service model. Bilateral meetings with SHIELD in May and October 2026 have opened practical exchanges on stigma, training and methodology.

The next stage

The second year will focus on expanding and analysing data, evaluating training and anti-stigma activities, strengthening referral and follow-up, and translating lessons from the three countries into a common service package. These are planned activities, with progress to be reported as evidence becomes available.

About MOBHOPE

MOBHOPE — Mobile Hepatitis Outreach and Prevention Effort — is co-funded by the European Union through the EU4Health Programme. Running from 2025 to 2028, it aims to strengthen, standardise and expand mobile healthcare for people at increased risk of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis and liver disease.

The project is coordinated by the Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Spain. Its three mobile outreach units are run by Madrid Positivo (UMC) in Spain, Ares do Pinhal (ADP) in Portugal and Hepatos in Croatia, bringing clinical, public health and community experience together.

Through mobile clinics, point-of-care diagnostics, community engagement and operational research, MOBHOPE works towards earlier diagnosis, better access to care and fewer health inequalities. Understanding social barriers and developing a shared European service package are central to creating tools and practices that other services can adopt.
