A European Joint Action

SHIELD — Strategies for Health Interventions to Eliminate Infection-Related Cancers — is an EU4Health Joint Action running from November 2025 to October 2028. It focuses on prevention of cancers associated with infections, including viral hepatitis.

Who is involved?

SHIELD brings together 69 partner organisations from 25 European countries. Coordination is led by CHIP, the Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections, at Rigshospitalet – University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Its consortium includes public health bodies, research institutions, health services and civil society.

Working with MOBHOPE

MOBHOPE is one of SHIELD's five supporting synergy projects, alongside PACE, HEP-HOP, HUMANCODE and CROSSLINK. Our exchanges connect experience from the mobile units with SHIELD's work on training, prevention and stigma.

The collaboration involves SHIELD's coordination team at CHIP and its WP5 team on stigma, led by Spain's Ministry of Health. Professional contacts in these exchanges include Francesca Roper and Sarah North at CHIP, Julia del Amo at the Ministry of Health and Daniela Rojas Castro at Fundación CSAI. MOBHOPE's project coordination is carried out by Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Gregorio Marañón (FIBHGM).

Meetings and next steps

  • 19 May 2026 — first MOBHOPE–SHIELD meeting, held. The teams opened a working exchange on training for professionals and assessment of stigma.
  • 15 October 2026 — SHIELD all-partner meeting, scheduled. MOBHOPE has accepted the invitation to participate in this online meeting.
  • Focused meeting with SHIELD coordination and WP5 — being organised. The teams are arranging a separate discussion on the training materials, the experience of implementing the ECDC stigma survey in the mobile units, and opportunities for the project's second year. The date is not yet confirmed.
