A European Joint Action

SHIELD — Strategies for Health Interventions to Eliminate Infection-Related Cancers — is an EU4Health Joint Action running from November 2025 to October 2028. It focuses on prevention of cancers associated with infections, including viral hepatitis.

Who is involved?

SHIELD brings together 69 partner organisations from 25 European countries. Coordination is led by CHIP, the Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections, at Rigshospitalet – University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Its consortium includes public health bodies, research institutions, health services and civil society.

Working with MOBHOPE

MOBHOPE is one of SHIELD's five supporting synergy projects, alongside PACE, HEP-HOP, HUMANCODE and CROSSLINK. Our exchanges connect experience from the mobile units with SHIELD's work on training, prevention and stigma.

The collaboration involves SHIELD's coordination team at CHIP and its WP5 team on stigma, led by Spain's Ministry of Health. Professional contacts in these exchanges include Francesca Roper and Sarah North at CHIP, Julia del Amo at the Ministry of Health and Daniela Rojas Castro at Fundación CSAI. MOBHOPE's project coordination is carried out by Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Gregorio Marañón (FIBHGM).

MOBHOPE–SHIELD: meetings held

  1. 19 May 2026 — first bilateral meeting. The teams introduced their objectives, methods and work plans, identifying possible cooperation on stigma assessment and professional training.
  2. 19 October 2026 — second bilateral meeting. Discussion focused on the complementarity between MOBHOPE WP3 and SHIELD WP5 and on practical opportunities to exchange expertise and resources.

Areas of cooperation

  • Stigma: explore expert feedback on MOBHOPE’s programme and exchange methodological experience.
  • Training: identify opportunities to share professional learning materials and practical tools, including links with SHIELD’s capacity-building work.
  • Evidence: assess whether relevant data can help contextualise findings, subject to availability, comparability and the applicable governance arrangements.

Next steps

The teams will continue their exchanges to define feasible joint activities. These are areas of cooperation under development; the meetings do not establish that joint interventions or data transfers have already been implemented.
