Hepatos brings MOBHOPE’s mobile care experience to HepHIV 2026 in Dublin

In Dublin, Hepatos president Tatjana Reić presented the Croatian team’s work bringing hepatitis testing and specialist care closer to people in prison.

On 2 and 3 November, EuroTEST’s HepHIV conference brought community organisations, healthcare professionals and public health officials together in Dublin. One question ran through the programme. What happens after a test, and how can services help people get the care they need?

In poster PO4/01, Reić described 27 outreach visits that Hepatos carried out between 2023 and 2025 in Croatian prisons, penitentiaries and probation offices. The mobile InfoHep Centre offered counselling, hepatitis C testing and liver stiffness measurements. The team worked with hospital clinicians and public health specialists to connect people with specialist care.

These visits offer practical lessons for MOBHOPE’s teams in Croatia, Portugal and Spain. Agreeing on how to offer a test, when to confirm a result and who will follow up can help care continue after the mobile unit leaves. In Dublin, Reić discussed the value of common standards and what European projects can learn from one another.

We are proud that Hepatos brought this work to Dublin through MOBHOPE’s collaboration with the SHIELD Joint Action. The SHIELD working group met on 2 November as part of the conference’s associated activities.

About MOBHOPE

MOBHOPE — Mobile Hepatitis Outreach and Prevention Effort — is co-funded by the European Union through the EU4Health Programme. Running from 2025 to 2028, it aims to strengthen, standardise and expand mobile healthcare for people at increased risk of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis and liver disease.

The project is coordinated by the Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Spain. Its three mobile outreach units are run by Madrid Positivo (UMC) in Spain, Ares do Pinhal (ADP) in Portugal and Hepatos in Croatia, bringing clinical, public health and community experience together.

Through mobile clinics, point-of-care diagnostics, community engagement and operational research, MOBHOPE works towards earlier diagnosis, better access to care and fewer health inequalities. Understanding social barriers and developing a shared European service package are central to creating tools and practices that other services can adopt.
